TURA, Sep 4: Deficit schoolteachers from Garo Hills will on Monday wear black badges in protest against the failure of the state government to fulfil its promises made recently.
Some of the demands of the deficit teachers include payment of pending arrears of the revised pay, enhancement of the DCRG from Rs 3 lakhs to 10 lakhs, implementation of modified ACPS to deficit schoolteachers, finalisation of service rules to the deficit schoolteachers and provision of social security benefits to retired teachers.
Earlier, the teachers, under the banner of the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association (GHDSTEA) and the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA), had submitted several memorandums to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and held a meeting with the Education department on the issue. (Contd from P-3) The teachers had also called on the Chief Secretary, during which they were assured that their demands would be fulfilled.
However, despite the efforts of the teachers and the assurance given to them, the demands remain unfulfilled till today, prompting the teachers to protest with black badges on Teachers’ Day.
The teachers have also warned that agitation will continue even after September 5 if their demands are not met.
