SHILLONG, Sep 5: The Congress party will kick-off its “Bharat Jodo Yatra” from Wednesday, general secretary and spokesperson of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Bobbeeta Sharma said here on Monday.
Sharma told reporters that the yatra is being launched to unite all Indians against three growing problems – economic inequality, social divisiveness and the erosion of Constitutional rights.
The yatra would start on September 7 from Kanyakumari and culminate in Jammu and Kashmir, covering 12 states and two Union Territories — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. She said that the route will be over 3,500 km and it will take about 150 days to complete the yatra.
Altogether 118 Bharat Yatris have been selected from across the country to join the yatra. In addition, Pradesh Congress Committees are shortlisting 100 Pradesh Yatris from the states.
“Every state through which the Yatra does not pass is organising a door-to-door campaign to reach every citizen to communicate the message of the yatra,” she said.
