SHILLONG, Sep 6: The prestigious Pine Mount School witnessed high drama on Tuesday when teachers staged a black flag protest on the school premises demanding the removal of school principal Aiom Ksiar Diengdoh. The latter has blamed “internal politics” behind the demand for her removal.
The teachers said that they were forced to protest since the state government had failed to respond to their demands which they had submitted in the form of a letter on September 2.
Talking to reporters, one of the teachers said their primary demand was removal of the principal since she had failed to deliver.
According to the teacher, they organised the protest after school hours since they did not want the students to be affected.
“We will continue to agitate if the government fails to remove the principal,” the teacher said.
When contacted, Diengdoh, who is currently admitted in a city hospital, said she was a victim of “internal politics” and some teachers were resorting to a smear campaign against her.
According to Diengdoh, these few teachers have managed to convince several of their colleagues to stand against her.
She said she was trying her utmost to improve the functioning of the school in the best interest of the students. “There is no valid ground to seek my removal,” she stated.
Diengdoh also disclosed that she had only ten months of service left since she is set to retire in July next year and her primary focus was to ensure that the ICSE and ISC examinations are conducted successfully next year.
“The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations only recognises my signature on any paper to be submitted by the students. They will suffer if I am removed at this moment,” she added.
