Groups seek Garo teachers’ appointment in select schools
TURA, Sep 15: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Khasi Hills Zone, the All Khasi Hills A’chik Federation and the Headmen Association on Thursday demanded that Garo teachers be appointed in all Garo Medium Lower Primary Schools in Khasi Hills region. The demand was made during a meeting on Thursday between the three organisations. According to the organisations, non-Garo-speaking candidates are being appointed in many Garo Medium LP schools in Khasi Hills. This has led to confusion among the students as they cannot understand anything, they said, adding “Many non-Garos have been appointed in these schools and there will be many more appointments in the future if nothing is done.” The organisations, while strongly condemning the move, have urged the government to look into the matter.
