NONGPOH, Sep 23: Against the backdrop of dissent and subsequent protest from several quarters against the proposal to set up casinos in state, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma urging the latter to issue a notification which states that the proposal for casinos has been scrapped.
Reminding the CM about his address in the Assembly, the Jirang MLA said, “As you have addressed in the House that the government would totally stop this project and cancel the deal at the earliest possible time, I request you to kindly issue a notification in this regard so as to erase the bad feelings of the people of Jirang constituency and the state as a whole.”
According to Sohtun, the proposed project has become a hot topic in Jirang and the people are against it.
Such projects will badly affect the sentiments of the people, he said.
