SHILLONG, Sep 24: As the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) engages in peace parleys with the central government, the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has urged the outfit to also include the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP), border dispute and Khasi language recognition in their ongoing tripartite peace talks.
Lauding the HNLC for their decision to go for peace talks, HANM president Lamphrang Kharbani recalled that the outfit started with the motive to protect the rights of the indigenous people of the state.
According to Kharbani, the sacrifices of many leaders will be meaningless if issues like ILP and inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution is not granted to the people of the state. He further made an appeal to the state government to ensure and keep on mounting pressure on the Centre to fulfil the demands and aspirations of the people of the state.
