Competitions mark YWCA’s observance of Int’l Day of Peace
SHILLONG, Sep 26: Charcoal painting and sketching competitions on ‘End Racism, Build Peace’, organised by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Shillong, marked the observance of International Day of Peace, in the city on September 24. According to a statement, the objective of the competitions was to disseminate awareness on the impact of racism on the fabric of society. “The charcoal painting and sketching competitions provide information and the narrative-like text is used to describe the story or message of division and discrimination of people with different race,” the statement said, adding that seven city-based institutions participated in the competitions. It was also informed that in the charcoal painting competition, Darshita Agarwala of Loreto Convent School, Lastborn Suiam of Kiddies Corner Secondary School and Meriiaki Louisa Lyngdoh of Loreto Convent School secured first, second and third prizes respectively. Similarly, in the sketching competition, Nikita Paul of St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School bagged the first prize, Damewanbiang Marboh of Shillong College secured the second prize and the third prize was awarded to Gracious AK Mujat of St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School.
Bust for HSPDP’s founding president on 7th death anniv
NONGSTOIN, Sep 26: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Monday observed the 7th death anniversary of the party’s founding president, Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, with his bust at Mawphanlur village being unveiled by the incumbent president of HSPDP, KP Pangniang. The memorial bust was built as token of appreciation and remembrance for his contributions towards the attainment of statehood. Speaking on the occasion, Pangniang recalled Lyngdoh as a tall leader and a stalwart of Meghalaya’s statehood struggle. Other speakers on the occasion recalled the work that Lyngdoh had done for the people, especially for those residing in the areas bordering Assam.
