SHILLONG, Oct 9: Twisting Scoops, Asia’s first and only Turkish dessert chain which was launched in 2016 with the aim to bring the Turkish taste to the Indian subcontinent, has now opened up at City Hut Dhaba, Shillong.
In India, Twisting Scoops was launched by Kunwarpreet Singh Juneja who was present at the Shillong launch. Since its establishment, Twisting Scoops has spread over 20 Indian cities and various nations like Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Shillong joins the ranks of cities like Chandigarh, New Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai.
True to its name, the guests have to twist and turn to the antics of the person behind the counter. The smiling Suleiman made everyone who is unused to the fun of twisting to the beat of music before they can claim their ice cream, laugh their heads off. What sets Twisting Scoops apart is that it offers ice-creams that are chemical free and are made from hundred per cent natural ingredients.
In a modest inauguration ceremony, Jiwat Vaswani, owner of the Jiva hotel chains and a philanthropist to boot, his wife Vanisha Vaswani, son Dishant and his business partner Yogesh Kataria cut the ribbon on Sunday on the City Hut Dhaba premises. This is the second outlet in the Northeast.
Speaking to this scribe, Dishant and Yogesh said they plan to expand the business to Jowai, Nongpoh and other places in Shillong.
Twisting Scoops originated in Turkey and was brought to India by two enterprising 18-year-old youths from Delhi who opened their first parlour in 2015 in New Rajinder Nagar. From there, it has taken wings to 108 stores across 20 cities and has started venturing out globally.
Curious guests enjoyed the antics of Suleiman the main curator of the ice creams who actually made guests dance to his tune before be actually gave them the ice cream of their choice. There was also a huge range of teas and coffees for those who prefer hot to cold. But on Sunday, nearly everyone had their fill of ice-cream which was too tempting to resist. After that, they washed down the creamy delight with cinnamon and peach tea.
Priced at Rs 200, Twisting Scoops ice-creams are conscious of maintaining health standards. Their nut and dried fruit mixed ice-cream amongst others are a heavenly delight. Dishant Vaswani and Yogesh Kataria already have dreams of spreading their wings elsewhere. They were seen discussing future plans already even while Gautam Pradhan, an old and loyal hand on the Jiva chain of hotels, was heard counselling them on book keeping and proper managing of the ice-cream chain.
Meanwhile, the parents of Dishant and Yogesh, Jiwat Vaswani and Nanak Kataria were seen watching from a distance with delight at the new venture. Jiwat Vaswani, the man with the Midas touch, while speaking at the launch, said, “I am delighted to be able to offer to the people of Shillong, particularly ice-cream lovers this choicest ice-cream. I am sure the people of Shillong who like to explore new tastes, will frequent this ice-cream parlour and enjoy the Turkish delights.”
Twisting Scoops will offer their services every day from 12 noon to 10 pm. As someone said, “It’s a natural place to veer towards after having a meal in the City Hut Dhaba.”
