Woman, grandchild electrocuted to death in Ri-Bhoi

NONGPOH, Oct 9: A 53-year-old woman and her minor grandchild died due to electric shock after coming into contact with live wires at Narang in Ri-Bhoi district on Sunday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Lut Shadap.
A source said that a minor, aged three years, was playing in her residential compound when an overhead electric wire fell on a coconut tree bending the leaves to the ground.
The minor girl touched the leaf and got electrocuted. Her grandmother, who was also nearby, rushed to help her but she was also electrocuted.
Neighbours saw the bodies of the two victims burning and tried to douse the flames but in vain.
The villagers immediately informed police who rushed to the spot with MeECL officials to investigate the matter.
