SHILLONG, Oct 12: Meghalaya Director General of Police LR Bishnoi has asked one and all to cooperate with the police and civil administration in fight against the drug menace in Meghalaya.
The DGP made the fervent appeal in his address at a special session on ‘Drug Abuse — A Deadly Menace’, organised by IIM Shillong on Tuesday.
In his address, the DGP apprised the gathering of the perils of drug abuse and the role played by the Meghalaya Police to tackle the same.
“Drug abuse is not an individual but a social problem. It not only ruins multiple families but also the society. It is a critical issue that the country is facing and all sections of the society must strive to curb this menace and find sustainable solutions to tackle it,” he said.
He also informed that the menace of drug abuse is prevalent but in urban and rural areas of the state.
“Meghalaya being near the golden triangle, an opium-producing area of Southeast Asia, comprising parts of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, is more susceptible to the menace of drug abuse due to the easy availability of drugs,” the DGP said.
