SHILLONG, Oct 21: The Cabinet is likely to approve the demands of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) that includes implementation of a quarterly system of payment of salary and constitution of the State Education Commission to address the grievances of SSA teachers.
MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai made the announcement after their meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday.
Rymbai said the meeting was held to take stock of the commitment made by the government during a meeting chaired by Tynsong and attended by official of the Education department and representatives of MSSASA on July 21.
Rymbai said the Dy CM told them that the Education department has completed its task and the approval have to come from the Cabinet which is likely to meet in the first week of November.
Tynsong is said to have assured the teachers of releasing the salary for the months of September, October and November before Christmas. “He (Dy CM) assured the Association to take up the matter with the department concerned and get the salary of the SSA teachers release before Christmas,” Rymbai said.
Pyngrope wants govt to help contractual teachers
Trinamool Congress state president Charles Pyngrope on Friday asked the state government to address the concerns of the sacked contractual teachers who have been running from pillar to post for their reinstatement.
“We cannot just forget the massive contribution of the teachers to the society,” Pyngrope said.
Reacting to Thursday’s inconclusive meeting between the Meghalaya Government Lower Primary School Contractual Teachers’ Association (MGLPSCTA) and the deputy CM, Pyngrope said that the MDA Government is not serious about addressing the issues.
He urged the government to look into the matter with a little more sincerity and develop a plan of action on a priority basis to address their grievances.
