SHILLONG, Oct 22: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday reminded the state government that it has not yet shared the reports of inquiries into alleged “rice scam” and irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) with the MLAs as promised during the last Assembly session.
“Where is the rice scam report? We want it,” Opposition Chief Whip George B Lyngdoh said.
He said the government had assured to share the two reports with the members. It has been more than a month since the Assembly session got over but the reports have not been shared, he said.
“I want to remind the government that they have a responsibility towards the state Assembly and the people. They should circulate the reports soon,” Lyngdoh insisted.
“If we don’t get the reports by the end of this month, we will say it is being done purposely and some Nero will play the fiddle again,” he said.
During the autumn session of the Assembly, some MLAs had asked the government to table the probe reports. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had then assured that copies of the reports would be shared with the members of the House.
The Justice (retired) RN Mishra-headed commission, which probed the alleged irregularities in the MeECL, submitted its report to the government in March this year.
It was assigned to look into records and make recommendations concerning the functioning of the MeECL and its three subsidiary companies – Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Ltd, Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Ltd and Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. The probe covered the period from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2021.
The state government also received the report of the “independent” probe into the rice scam.
However, none of the reports has been made public so far.
