SHILLONG, Oct 24: In an indirect jibe at his political rival Nongkrem MLA Lambor Malngiang, Mawhati MLA and Cabinet Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare on Monday claimed people tried to get him arrested only because he tried to help people from Nongkrem Constituency.
Lamare was speaking at a function to induct the new office-bearers of NPP’s Nongkrem Block Committee in the presence of state president and Rajya Sabha member, WR Kharlukhi, Cabinet Minister and NPP MLA, Sniawbhalang Dhar, and former MLA of Umroi, Ngaitlang Dhar.
Lamare will be contesting the upcoming 2023 Assembly polls from Nongkrem constituency, and was elected the president of the NPP Nongkrem Block Committee.
“My intention was to help the people to the best of my capability. But my political opponents are not happy with my action,” the NPP MLA from Mawhati said, who claims he is ready to be behind bars for the sake of reaching out to the people that need help.
The Nongkrem MLA, Lambor Malngiang, had alleged that attempts were made to disturb the reach of central services among people over “petty politics” in Madanrting.
Malgniang had made this remark during a function to launch the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Madanriting in July this year.
Mandariting had become the first census town in Meghalaya to receive the benefits of MGNREGS.
It may be recalled that the ruling NPP had received a major boost in Nongkrem Constituency after scores of leaders and supporters of different political parties from the constituency switched over to the party.
Speaking on the occasion, NPP state president WR Kharlukhi claimed that the NPP will form the government on its own after 2023 Assembly elections, and repeat what the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) had done in 1972.
Senior Cabinet Minister and NPP leader Sniawbhalang Dhar said the people of Nongkrem will benefit from electing Lamare as their MLA in the upcoming elections.
