26 houses damaged in SWKH due to cyclone

MAWKYRWAT, Oct 27: A total of 26 houses in 13 villages Mawkyrwat C&RD Block suffered damages due to Cyclone Sitrang which lashed at the state recently.
There were many more houses which suffered minor damages but did not report to the concerned authority.
Incessant rainfall and cyclonic storm between October 24 and 25 wreaked havoc in different parts of South West Khasi Hills, thereby damaging houses, uprooting trees and pulling up electric posts.
Strong winds accompanied by heavy rains were seen throughout the district.
However, no injury or loss of life was reported.
With many electric poles and lines being damaged, the people of Mawthawpdah area and Shiliang Um Rilang area were without electricity since October 24 till Thursday afternoon, while power in Mawkyrwat area was out on October 24 and 25 only.
