Man convicted of raping minor

SHILLONG, Oct 28: The Court of Special Judge (POCSO) FS Sangma on Friday convicted Wanteilang Khongkhniang for raping a 14-year-old in 2014.
The case was registered at Laban police station.
Special Public Prosecutor E Rynjah said the convict was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh.
In case of default of fine, the convict shall undergo another six months of imprisonment, she said.
Rynjah said the convict has also been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000.
“Under Section 450 of the IPC, 1860, the convict has been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000. He has also been convicted to 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 506 of the IPC, 1860,” the Special Public Prosecutor said, adding that all the sentences will run concurrently.
