SHILLONG, Oct 29: In a statement that now contradict earlier reports that the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills had issued a show-cause notice to the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), the FKJGP on Saturday revealed it is yet to receive any show cause notice from the district administration regarding the incidents that unfolded during the public rally on employment called by the organisation.
“We are yet to receive any notice. We only came to know about this from media reports. Once we receive the notice, we will sit and decide on our future course of action,” said FKJGP vice president Kitboklang Nongphlang.
As per reports, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo said a show cause notice has been issued to the organisers (FKJGP) for violating the conditions of the rally and that while giving permission it was made clear in the letter that if there is any breach of law and order, the organisers will be held accountable.
With regard to the two suo motu cases registered in Sadar and Laitumkhrah police stations against the assaulters, police said the investigation is under way.
The DC had, however, not responded to the questions forwarded to her by the The Shillong Times on the law-and-order breakdown and the permission for the rally.
