SHILLONG, Nov 1: FKJGP general secretary Eldie N Lyngdoh said he, as leader of the federation, was ready to face the consequences for the violence that had taken place during the public rally on Friday.
Talking to reporters outside Sadar police station where he was summoned on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said police questioned him on the incidents which had occurred during the rally.
He made it clear that the FKJGP had no role in the assault of innocent people on the day of the rally.
Whatever happened was unexpected and none of the leaders had anticipated it, he said. “The permission which we had sought from the district administration was to hold a peaceful rally. The situation would have been much worse if we had planned to create law and order problems,” the FKJGP leader said.
Recalling that more than 2,000 people attended the rally, Lyngdoh said, “There could have been law and order problems after the public meeting but there was no such incident.” He said they have sought an appointment with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to submit a memorandum highlighting an eight-point demand to address the unemployment problem.
“We are yet to get a response from the Chief Minister’s Office,” he said.
Lyngdoh also disclosed that he has been summoned again on Friday in connection with the case filed against the federation.
Around 20 members of the FKJGP had accompanied Lyngdoh but there were not allowed inside the Sadar police station.
FKJGP senior vice president Elton Cliff Warjri is scheduled to appear at Sadar police station on Wednesday in connection with the same incident.
