Three convicted in separate POCSO cases

SHILLONG, Nov 1: Three people have been convicted in separate cases of rape involving minors.
In the first case, the Court of Special Judge (POCSO) FS Sangma on Monday convicted one Mihkatngen Sarubai for raping a 14-year-old in 2015.
The case was registered at Madanrting Police Station.
Special Public Prosecutor E Rynjah informed that the convict was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs one lakh.
Rynjah said the convict has also been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 under section 450 of the IPC, 1860, and has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 under section 328 of the IPC, 1860.
The Special Public Prosecutor also informed that the convict has been sentenced to another seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 under section 354B of the IPC, 1860.
Meanwhile, for each default of payment of fine, the convict will undergo another six month of imprisonment.
In the second case, the Court of Special Judge (POCSO) convicted one Justice Nongkhlaw for raping a three-and-half-year-old in 2013. The case was registered at Laban police station.
According to the Special Public Prosecutor, the convict has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 has been imposed.
He has also been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under section 10 of the POCSO Act, 2012, has been imposed on him.
According to Rynjah, the convict has also been awarded five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000, and seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 under section 366 of the IPC, 1860, and section 366A of the IPC, 1860 respectively.
In the third case, the Court of Special Judge (POCSO) convicted one Kyrshan Kharshandi for raping a 14-year-old in 2013. The case was registered at Lumdiengjri police station.
The Special Public Prosecutor informed that the convict has been sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 under section 376 (2) of the IPC, 1860.
The convict has also been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 under section 366A of the IPC, 1860.
