8 schools to represent M’laya at Natl Children’s Science Congress

SHILLONG, Nov 5: Eight science projects from schools across Meghalaya have been selected for state representation at the 30th National Children’s Science Congress 2022, which is slated for January 27 to 31, 2023, in Gujarat.
According to a statement, the two-day State-Level Children Science Congress, which was organised on November 3 and 4 at Shillong College, was thematised on ‘Understanding Ecosystem for Health and Well-being’.
The event was participated by science enthusiasts from across the state, who displayed their projects in line with the theme.
A total of 62 projects were presented during the two-day programme by teams of over 200 participants from across the state.
It may be mentioned that students were selected to participate in the state-level event after they were selected during district-level Science Congresses organised in different district headquarters and C&RD block headquarters.
Out of the 62 projects, eight projects — four each from junior and senior categories — have been selected for state representation at the national level of the same programme, which will be held in Gujarat.
In the junior category, Kyrdem Presbyterian Sec. School, Bhoirymbong, EKH, Christian full Gospel Fellowship SSA U.P School, Pynursla, EKH, Ashugre Deficit UP School and Jaintia Higher Secondary School, Jowai, WJH, were selected for their projects ‘Ka jingpyndonkam ia u Sohma (Rhus chinensis Miller) kum u dawai’, ‘Study of Ant diversity in our Locality’, ‘Preparation of Local Soda and its importance’ and ‘Noise Reduction’ respectively.
Similarly, in the senior category, St. Paul Higher Secondary School, Umling, Ri-Bhoi, Fernando Secondary School, Nongstoin, WKH, Mawkhyllei Higher Secondary School, Mawthadrashan, EWKH, and Tura Town Bengalee Higher Secondary School, WGH, were selected for their projects ‘Re-processing of plastic waste into new and useful product’, ‘Local Mosquito Repellent Coil’, ‘Know your Eco-system’ and ‘Study of Bamboo shoots as a source of nutrition and preservation to enhance its business potential’ respectively.
“Two best projects i.e., one each from the junior and senior category will also represent the state at the Indian Science Congress Session to be held at Nagpur, Maharashtra from January 3 -7, 2023,” a statement in this regard said.
It may be mentioned that the State-Level Children Science Congress was inaugurated on Thursday by Commission & Secretary of Education department Dr. BDR Tiwari, in the presence of Shillong College principal Dr E Kharkongor, and officials of State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya.
