TURA, Nov 8: A zonal-level Red Ribbon Quiz competition was on Tuesday organised by the Don Bosco College, Tura in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) at Bosco Hall within the college premises.
Dr Zeany T Ch. Momin, MD Pathology, Specialist, Tura Civil Hospital, who was the chief guest of the occasion, said that there was so much to be done to be rid of HIV/ AID in the state.
HIV/AIDS is prevalent among young people and this has impacted the career, family life and the psychology of the young person suffering from HIV/AIDS, she said.
Dr Zeany also added that there is a need to make young people to come forward to donate blood and save lives.
Alexander Kharkongor, Assistant Director (IEC) Meghalaya State AIDS Control Society, Shillong highlighted the purpose of organising the Zonal Quiz Competition. He said that the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) is roping in colleges and NGOs to join hands together to help the youth to be aware of HIV and AIDS. He also informed that the winners and the runner-up at the Zonal Level will represent Garo Hills Zone in a Quiz programme to be held at Shillong in the month of November.
Dr Barbara S. Sangma, Nodal Officer of the Red Ribbon Club of Don Bosco College, Tura highlighted the various activities of the club.
At the Quiz programme, Don Bosco College, Tura scored the highest points followed by Mendipathar College. Both colleges shall represent the Garo Hills Zone at the State Level Red Ribbon Quiz Competition to be held at Shillong.
Principal of the college, Fr Bivan Rodriques Mukhim welcomed the gathering and thanked the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society was organizing the Zonal Level Red Ribbon Quiz Competition in Garo Hills for the consecutive three years. He expressed gratitude to the Red Ribbon Club of the College for taking forward the activities of the club.
