SHILLONG, Nov 27: The state government has constituted a judicial commission of inquiry headed by Justice (retd) T Vaiphei to inquire into the Mukroh shooting incident on November 22.
“We have decided to go ahead with the judicial commission of inquiry. I am sure the notification has already been issued since I was in Delhi,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told a section of the media.
He hoped that the commission will finish its task and submit its report to the government at the earliest.
Tynsong also stated that the police have registered a case into the Mukroh incident and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the DIG (Eastern Range) has begun investigation.
“We hope that the SIT will arrest those responsible for killing five innocent villagers. We will ensure that these people are booked as per various provisions of the law,” Tynsong said.
Asked about the demand of the pressure groups that the CBI trial be held in Meghalaya, he said the incident occurred in Meghalaya. “Therefore, the trial will happen in Meghalaya,” he added.
