SHILLONG, Nov 27: The capital city is likely to remain incident-free for at least a few more days with the pressure groups deciding to give the state government time to take a decision on their demands.
The five pressure groups – Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and Ri-Bhoi Youth Front (RBYF) – have asked the state government to take immediate steps to arrest the people responsible for the indiscriminate firing on November 22 at Mukroh where five innocent villagers were killed.
Reacting to the information shared by West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya that police have registered a case in connection with the Mukroh killing FKJGP president Dundee C Khongsit told The Shillong Times that the federation was happy with the development.
He, however, asked the government not to exercise delay in arresting the culprits hailing from the Assam police and Assam Forest Protection Force.
The FKJGP president also demanded that the state government should immediately set up a police outpost at Mukroh and also in all the sensitive areas along the border.
“We will closely monitor the action taken by the government. If nothing is done then we will have to meet again and decide our future course of action,” Khongsit added.
