SHILLONG, Nov 30: The youth wing of Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Wednesday decided to meet central leaders in Delhi to press for creation of a separate Khasi-Jaintia state.
While refusing to divulge their strategies on moving forward on their demand, HSPDP youth wing president Sandondor Ryntathiang said they will be camping in Delhi between December 14 and 16 to meet political leaders and senior officials in Delhi.
“We would be camping in New Delhi for three days to pressurise the Centre to consider this long-pending demand,” Ryntathiang said, while recalling that the founding president of HSPDP, (late) Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, had spearheaded the movement for a separate state.
“He (Lyngdoh) was of the view that there will be good governance for the people of the Khasi-Jaintia Hills only if we have a separate state,” Ryntathiang said.
In their effort for creation of a separate state, the HSPDP youth wing has also sought the support of the 36 legislators from Khasi-Jaintia Hills region along with the 60 MDCs of KHADC and JHADC.
On the sidelines, he observed that the issue pertaining to the reservation policy has become one of the heated debates at the moment.
“We have seen the allocation of government jobs. We are of the view that the Khasi-Jaintia state is the only solution for the betterment of people,” he added.
HSPDP youth wing president Ryntathiang also said that they will be holding a seminar on December 5 on the separate state demand with NEHU’s Prof LS Gassah and advocate Robertjune Kharjahrin as the resource persons. “We would like to invite the MLAs and MDCs to attend this seminar,” he said.
The HSPDP youth wing president, however, refused to comment on the Mukroh shooting incident since the party top leadership has made its stand on the incident clear.
