NONGPOH, Dec 2: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday inaugurated the much-anticipated Patharkhmah Civil Subdivision in Western Ri-Bhoi in the presence of Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat, Jirang MDC Victor Rani, district administration officials, prominent leaders of the area and locals.
The new civil subdivision will function from its headquarter at Patharkhmah and will comprise 110 villages.
Addressing the gathering during the inaugural programme, the chief minister said that the upgrade of Patharkhmah is a step forward to change the lives of the people of the area.
Reiterating the government’s endeavour to bring administration closer to the people, he lamented how the locals earlier had to go to Nongpoh and other parts of the state to avail government services.
“That is the reason why this government has decided that we will take governance closer to the people, that we will ensure that we make it easier for the people to live their lives, easier for them to get all kinds of different government services that they require, whether it is by creating new blocks, whether it is by creating new civil subdivisions, whether it is by creating laws to ensure that services are given on time,” he said.
Conrad also assured that the state government will continue to improve the overall functioning of blocks, civil subdivisions and different departments.
During the day, the chief minister also distributed funds amounting to Rs 14 lakh to 12 self-help groups.
