Meghalaya music maestro to receive Sangeet Natak Akademi Award

SHILLONG, Dec 3: Folk music maestro Silbi Passah has been selected as one of the 128 recipients of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2021.
The Akademi Award carries a purse money of Rs one lakh, a Tamrapatra and Angavastram. The awards will be conferred by the President of India in a special investiture ceremony to be held later.
In addition, Jesilda Cheran Momin was also selected among 102 artists of India for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in the field of folk music and dance for the year 2019.
The Yuva Puraskar carries a purse money of Rs 25,000. The award will be presented at a special ceremony by the Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi.
The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar is given to artists below the age of 40 years and is meant to encourage outstanding young talents in diverse fields of performing arts and giving them national recognition early in their life, so that they may work with greater commitment and dedication in their chosen fields.
Earlier it was reported that folk music maestro Gloucester Nongbet has been selected as one of the 86 winners of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commemorating 75 years of the country’s Independence.
