SHILLONG, Dec 4: Opposition leader Mukul Sangma is likely to repeat his 2018 act of contesting elections from two seats in the upcoming polls.
In the last elections, Mukul had contested from Ampati and Songsak and this time he is eying the Tikrikilla seat in addition to his own constituency of Songsak, Trinamool Congress sources said.
Mukul has won from both Ampati and Songsak in 2018 but had vacated the Ampati seat which was won by his daughter Miani D Shira in the bye-election held in May that year.
Opposition Chief Whip and TMC MLA George B Lyngdoh, however, said no such decision has been taken. “Dr Mukul has been working hard for the organisation across the state and there has been a strong focus in Tikrikilla.”
The party source said the Opposition leader is making all efforts to ensure that the TMC retains the Tikrikilla seat.
It is noteworthy that sitting TMC legislator Jimmy D Sangma is likely to join the NPP in the coming days and this, perhaps, explains the extra focus the Trinamool is giving to the constituency.
