UDP flags public issues caused by no sub-post office in Kharkutta
TURA, Dec 8: Alleging that the entire stretch of Garo Hills from Mendima to A’dokgre falls under Assam sub-post offices of Goalpara, Damra, Dudhnoi, Rangjhuli and Dhupdara, the youth wing of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Garo Hills has sought the establishment of a sub-post office at Kharkutta in North Garo Hills. In its memorandum to the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner RP Marak, the youth body said that people are unable to apply for SIM cards in Meghalaya as the PIN codes on their EPIC are from Assam. It also informed that owing to the absence of Meghalaya’s sub-post office in the area, people are not only deprived of applying for online jobs and education but are also prevented from enjoying the benefits of various schemes provided by the Indian Postal Service. Other problems, according to the youth wing, include difficulty in applying for passports. Maintaining that the region might face severe effects in the long run due to the unavailability of a dedicated sub-post office, the UDP youth wing sought immediate intervention of the DC.
