SHILLONG, Dec 10: BJP MLA from South Shillong has said that there is political propaganda against the saffron party and him since he is a BJP legislator. He, however, went on to assert that his constituency South Shillong is the most peaceful of all.
Sanbor, who is also a Cabinet Minister in the Conrad Sangma-led MDA Government, claimed that he is the first MLA to allow grant of Rs 25,000 to several youths to open beef shops. He added that all the festivals, whether Christmas, Diwali, or Eid, are celebrated peacefully in his constituency.
Talking about poll promises after inaugurating a working women’s hostel in Rilbong, Shullai said some politicians will make endless promises but disappear after elections. The hostel has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore.
At the inaugural programme, the local MLA recalled that the land initially belonged to the Revenue department, but after extensive perusal, the hostel was built on the said land.
Enrolment
Meanwhile, with Assembly polls nearing closer than ever, the State BJP is going all out to enrol members in the saffron brigade with push from party’s aspiring candidates.
The BJP North Shillong mandal headed by former IPS officer M Kharkrang, on Saturday, conducted an enrolment drive at Riatsamthiah BJP office.
More than 120 people have enrolled themselves with the BJP there.
Similarly, a door-to-door membership drive campaign was organised in South Shillong and West Shillong constituencies on Saturday, which yielded in over 150 members for the BJP.
