NONGSTOIN, Dec 12: The demand for separate Khasi-Jaintia and Garo states got a further push on Monday with the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the Garo National Council (GNC) holding a meeting at Mawphanlur (in West Khasi Hills) to discuss the growing demand.
Speaking to a media person after the meeting, GNC general secretary Augustine R Marak recalled that Late Hoping Stone Lyngdoh and Late Clifford Marak had formed a coordination committee and had jointly submitted a memorandum to the Government of India demanding separate Khasi-Jaintia and Garo states.
“Today we reconstituted the same committee which was formed by our great leaders. Members of this committee will participate in the dharna in New Delhi on December 14 to raise the demand with the central government,” he said.
