MAWKYRWAT, Dec 14: After remaining in a dilapidated state for 58 long years, the 10-km Rangmaw-Mawksiar road in South West Khasi Hills has finally been repaired, much to the delight of seven villages in Phlangkynshi area, 18 km from Mawkyrwat.
Local MLA and PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar on Wednesday inaugurated the repaired stretch of road, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7 crore under the Central Road Fund (CRF) 2018-19.
The villages that have been connected through this road include Phlangkynshi Mihngi, Phlangkynshi Sepngi, Dontynrong, Mawksiar, Phlangmawtangdiar, Phlangjaud Lumdewsaw and Phlangjaud.
Tongkhar, on the occasion, expressed gratitude to the state government for turning the dreams of the locals into a reality.
He also informed that the much-awaited 100-bed hospital in Mawkyrwat will be inaugurated on December 22.
Meanwhile, Myntri of Mawksiar Brialtiris Nongbsaw informed that the Jakrem-Ranikor road via Rangmaw and Phlangkynshi was constructed in 1963-64 by the government of undivided Assam, and had been neglected by successive governments thereafter.
