Guv harps on NEC’s contributions

SHILLONG, Dec 18: Meghalaya Governor BD Mishra has observed that the North Eastern Council (NEC) has been immeasurably addressing the growing hopes and aspirations of the people of the Northeastern region with the revised ‘NEC General Guidelines’ of 2015.
The Governor was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of the NEC on Sunday, which was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister and Chairman NEC Amit Shah.
The Governor observed that the NEC is focusing on livelihood entrepreneurship, start-up and skill development for generating jobs in the Northeast.
The youth of the region need further motivation to take up the start-up ventures like tourism, animal husbandry, bamboo and agri-horticultural projects by the NEC, which will also help in eradicating the decades-long militancy in the Region, he said.
The Governor, who has seen the region since early 1960s as a young infantry officer of the Indian Army, believes that addressing the aspirations of the youth through NEC can change the pace of development of the region, which is bestowed with enchanting cultural traditions, mesmerising topography, artistic textiles and handicrafts, virgin natural environment and has huge potential for hydropower and minerals for good.
