SHILLONG, 20: Meghalaya Governor BD Mishra has said that the best civil-military relations are found in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Governor said this while addressing the 48th Advance Professional Programme in Public Administration at Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi, on Tuesday.
According to a statement, the programme was attended by senior government officials, including from the Indian Armed Forces.
In his address, Mishra, who is also the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, called upon the officials of the Indian Armed Forces to be fearless and forthright.
The Governor also asked them to build up their professional competence to the extent that the political leaders get convinced that whatever is being suggested by the military leaders is in the best interest of the country.
Contending that civil power is supreme in the world’s largest democracy, Mishra emphasised on strengthening the civil-military relations based on confidence building, mutual trust, mutual knowledge of civil-military affairs and a transparent interface between the civil and military leadership.
Sharing his observation as a former infantry officer of the Indian Army and as the Head of the State, the Governor called for optimisation of civil-military relations as an integral part of the National Defence Policy.
He said that the civil-military relations must aim at making the Indian Armed Forces atmanirbhar (self-reliant) and making India ‘Shreshtha Bharat’.
