Cold wave bites city, mercury to dip further

SHILLONG, Jan 2: Shillong is already freezing with chilling temperature which is expected to dip further in the next few days.
The minimum temperature in Shillong was 5.9 degrees Celsius on Monday. Mawkyrwat recorded the lowest temperate at 2.9 degrees Celsius on the same day.
IMD officials predicted that a slight fall in minimum temperature is likely and the state capital is expected to see a minimum temperate of 4-6 degrees in the coming days.
On the other hand, the cold weather is much more bearable in Garo Hills as most areas such as Ampati, Resubelpara and Baghmara registered a minimum temperate of over 10 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Tura was 13.4 degrees on the day.
In Shillong, people are safeguarding themselves with warm clothes and heaters. It is a common sight in every home, office and shops.
People are making a beeline in shops to buy warm clothes in the city.
