Guwahati, Jan 6: A team from the Assam directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption on Friday laid a trap on the premises of a police outpost under Gogamukh police station in Dhemaji district and apprehended a police constable over a bribery charge.

The constable (unarmed branch), identified as Niran Dhar Pawe, was caught red handed by the vigilance team at 11:15 am immediately after he accepted Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant at Bordoloni outpost, an official statement issued here said.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant,” the statement said.

In this connection, a case has been registered at the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) police station vide ACB police station case number 01/2023 under Section 120(B) of IPC, read with 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
