SHILLONG, Jan 8: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Sunday said the Courtyard Marriot Hotel will be inaugurated “very soon”.
He made the announcement after inspecting the progress of the work of the five star facility.
“I have come today to have a walkthrough of the new Courtyard Marriot Hotel. I am pleased and happy to see the kind of work that has happened,” Sangma told reporters.
Stating that the entire infrastructure is amazing, he said it will raise the standard of hospitality sector, not just in Shillong and Meghalaya but the entire Northeast.
Sangma said this is the largest hotel and the biggest in terms of rooms in the Northeast.
“We hope we will be able to inaugurate it very soon. A bit of formalities and paperwork is left,” the CM said.
Conrad further said he is sure that the guests of the hotel will be satisfied with the services.
The hotel will have around 200 rooms with state-of-the-art facilities.
The state Cabinet had last year scrapped the previous agreement signed with the HM Cements and inked a fresh 30-year agreement with the Maxim Infrastructure & Real Estate Pvt. Ltd. for completing the project.
The construction began in 2010-2011 and the HM Cements was to have completed it within 27 months since getting the land from the Urban Affairs Department on lease for 30 years under public-private partnership mode.
However, the company defaulted on payment of loan. Subsequently, the National Company Law Tribunal took over the project and the Maxim Infrastructure & Real Estate Pvt. Ltd. got the project through a bidding process.
