MAWKYRWAT, Jan 9: National People’s Party (NPP) national vice president Prestone Tynsong has beseeched all electorates to put to use their sagacity before casting their votes in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Tynsong said this while referring to one of his remarks “We, MLAs and political candidates, always make a fool out of the voters and the voters also fall to the trap every five years”, which he made in September last year.
The NPP national vice president, who was addressing a public meeting of NPP Mawkyrwat Block on Monday, said that the intent behind his statement was not to belittle the voters but instead educate them against falling into the trap of the politicians.
During the meeting, Tynsong also aired discontent over most voters still being oblivious to the value of elections.
“Sometimes, our people consider polls, whether be for the election of MDC, MLA or MP, as some kind of a festival; this is very dangerous to the state as a whole, especially our Jaitbynriew,” Tynsong said during the meeting, which was attended by hundreds of NPP supporters from Mawkyrwat constituency.
Urging the electorates to think twice before pressing ‘the button’ once Meghalaya goes to polls, Tynsong said, “While having this golden opportunity every five years to elect the public representatives, we should think carefully — it is like electing the elders in the Church in which we spend months in prayer to get the best ones.”
Asserting that the NPP will come back to power, Tynsong said the party’s priority will be to entirely solve the decades-old border dispute with Assam.
