SHILLONG, Jan 11: Launching a scathing attack, Congress leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Wednesday accused former Mylliem MLA Hamletson Dohling of prioritising money over people’s welfare and, in a downright treachery, joining the National People’s Party.
It may be mentioned that Dohling was officially inducted into the NPP during a programme last week.
An infuriated Lyngdoh said that Dohling chose to join the NPP despite knowing that the party is a “puppet” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which, he argued, has sidelined minorities of the country.
“If he (Dohling) was a people’s leader and had their support, then why did he desert a senior position in his old party to join the NPP? The answer is obvious. The NPP wants numbers and Dohling wants money,” Lyngdoh, who is also the Congress candidate from Mylliem, said.
Accusing the BJP of attacking minorities across India and breaking down churches, Lyngdoh said, “Even after knowing this, the former legislator decided to choose BJP’s puppet party NPP. Till date, Dohling has not said a single word against any atrocities committed against tribals.”
Lyngdoh, who is also the MDC of Mylliem, further said that five years of NPP has been riddled with corruption and that the party is now covering its tracks by distributing cash before the elections.
“What is the cost of the livelihood of people? 1,000, 2,000, 5,000? If five years of governance boils down to these amounts, then it is simply an insult to the people. The NPP has, time and again, tried to shed off responsibilities in the five years of its government. The people gave them a chance but they failed. People deserve better now,” Lyngdoh said.
He also added that there was a need to invest more in the youths of the state as there is a huge number of untapped potential.
Lyngdoh also said that jobs, education and skill training have been completely ignored over the past five years due to which the future of Meghalaya is taking a hit.
