SHILLONG, Jan 11: With Assembly elections just around the corner, KAM Meghalaya recently conducted a survey in constituencies of East Shillong, South Shillong and North Shillong to seek the views of the general public on the development front.
Informing this, KAM Meghalaya candidate from South Shillong Angela Rangad said, “Our manifesto is going to be the voice of the people captured through our survey. We are still working on putting together the nitty-gritty of things like infrastructure and other physical requirements, which people have indicated.”
According to her, the survey revealed that people want representatives who can frame laws and policies for the overall improvement of their lives.
“People want a candidate who is accessible and who can offer an alternative to nepotism and favouritism,” Rangad said, adding that over 90 per cent people want representatives and candidates who are honest and not corrupted.
According to her, many have also lamented the need for legislations to address the issues of unemployment, healthcare and better education.
“We know we are celebrating 50 years of statehood. But in these 50 years, we do not have a law which is solely there for the betterment of the people,” she said.
Referring to the KAM Meghalaya’s expenses and fund-raising campaign, Rangad revealed that they have received a donation amounting to over Rs nine lakh, and 47 per cent of the donation has come from the people of Meghalaya.
According to Rangad, they have also received donations from people who are based outside Meghalaya.
