SHILLONG, Jan 13: The Acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem Ainam Manik Syiem on Friday filed his nomination for the election of a full-fledged Syiem of the Hima Mylliem.
Syiem, who was accompanied by the Myntris and Basans of the Hima, filed his nomination before the office of the joint secretary of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), who is also the returning officer of this election.
Speaking to media persons, Ainam exuded confidence that he will emerge victorious in the upcoming election, while expressing hope of getting the support of the Myntris, Basans and Lyngdohs.
The KHADC on January 11 decided to conduct the election for a full-fledged Syiem of Hima Mylliem as per the provisions under the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Appointment and Succession of Syiem, Deputy Syiem, Electors and Rangbah Shnong of Mylliem Syiemship) Act, 2007.
It may be mentioned that the Hima Mylliem has remained without a full-fledged Syiem since 2016.
