SHILLONG, Jan 16: Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad Sangma has termed the TMC’s WE Card and MYE card promises as “baaki (credit) card”.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Sangma said political parties were free to make promises as they have the right to do so but it is the state government which is actually doing things on the ground by supporting farmers and women self-help groups. “Our government is all about action like the FOCUS and FOCUS+ and already more than three lakh farmers have benefited,” he said.
Sangma said the government would spend around Rs 400-500 crore every year under the schemes and in 10 years, people can use this money effectively.
Reacting to the BJP’s tirade against the NPP for taking credit of the central projects, he said India has a federal structure and both the Centre and the State have their own roles to play.
Admitting that the Centre has always supported the state, Sangma said the Prime Minister has given lot of projects to the state and even after getting the projects, the state has to do a lot of work as it is the implementing agency.
He also made light of the BJP’s criticism saying it was a common thing during elections.
On the reports of party MLA Gigur Myrthong threatening voters in his constituency (Mawshynrut), the CM said, “I have not seen the video but if there is anything, I will call him for an explanation.”
A video of the MLA has gone viral in which Myrthong is seen threatening villagers warning them that they will not get any help from him if they do not support him.
