SHILLONG, Jan 18: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Tuesday foiled a smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills, and seized cosmetic items worth 47 lakh.
According to a statement, the consignment was seized when the smugglers were trying to cross over to Bangladesh through a riverine patch in Barmanbari village, East Khasi hills.
“BSF, on observing them, challenged them to stop but they fled from the spot, leaving behind a huge quantity of cosmetic items. The seized items were handed over to customs for further investigation and legal action,” the statement said.
