Appeal to augment fisheries sector

SHILLONG, Jan 19: Envisaging a better-placed Fisheries sector in the state, Director of Fisheries AL Mawlong made an appeal to the scientific community to look for quality fish fingerlings and cost effective fish feed, and asked them to explore setting up a fish feed testing laboratory.
Mawlong was speaking at the inaugural programme of the two-day workshop on ‘Technologies for sustainable and resilient fishery based livelihood in North East region’ at ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam.
The workshop, which is organised by ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) in collaboration with ICAR research complex for NEH Region, is being attended by experts and stakeholders from the domain of fisheries, subject matter specialists of KVKs from all Northeastern states and representatives from NGOs, start-ups, and officials from other related developmental agencies.
The workshop aims to provide the attending stakeholders with insight on technological options for better fish harvest, value addition and entrepreneurship development in fisheries.
