SHILLONG, Jan 19: UDP candidate from Sohra, Titosstarwell Chyne has questioned the local MLA, Gavin Miguel Mylliem, over the promise allegedly made in 2018 to revive the ailing Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited (MCCL) seeking answers from him about the promise.
Chyne, who is also the Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), was addressing a meeting of party leaders and supporters from UDP Laitlyngkot Circle.
He said the people of Sohra area have been suffering since the closure of the MCCL.
“I am also concerned about the lack of better health infrastructure in the constituency since the whole Sohra area is yet to have a Community Health Centre (CHC). The sitting MLA has not followed up the proposal to set up a CHC at Laitlyngkot,” he said.
He also rued the state of education sector in the area pointing out that there is only one college in Sohra to cater to the students of the area.
“Most of the higher secondary schools in the area only have Arts stream,” the UDP candidate said.
