SHILLONG, Jan 19: NPP state president WR Kharlukhi on Thursday compared the promises of the TMC to “The Eagle and the Kite” fable where the kite trying to woo the eagle promises to feed her an ostrich but offers only a mouse after marriage.
“The dowry technique of Mamata Banerjee to woo the voters of Meghalaya by making tall promises as in the Eagle and the Kite fable will be of no help for the TMC as people are wise enough to understand,” Kharlukhi, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, said.
His reference was to the TMC’s promises of financial inclusion of women through the WE Card and the creation of 3 lakh jobs through the MYE Card, if voted to power.
“Let them fulfil the promises before elections. Will they pay from their party pocket if they are not elected? Let them tell the people they are going to give that Rs 1,000 (to one woman in each family) whether or not elected. If they do so, then that is a real promise,” Kharlukhi said.
“But these people are here just for political gimmicks. They try to blame us and call us corrupt when we ask for proof. These are all political propaganda. People will decide,” he added.
Referring to media reports on the TMC not fulfilling many promises made ahead of West Bengal elections, Kharlukhi said when the party can lie in its home turf and to its own people, what will stop it from not repeating the same in Meghalaya.
