Congress to contest 55 seats

SHILLONG, Jan 20: Just days after declaring the names of party candidates from 40 seats, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has decided to fight 55 out of the 60 seats on offer for the February 27 electoral battle.
MPCC president Vincent H Pala on Friday informed that the full list of the party candidates will be cleared by the AICC.
Pala also said that the Congress election committee will meet on Monday to finalise the names of candidates for the remaining 15 seats after which the full list will be forwarded to Delhi.
On December 29, the MPCC had announced the names of 40 candidates for the Assembly elections.
Pala, meanwhile, said that the AICC has approved the manifesto compiled by the MPCC.
“The manifesto will be released by next week,” Pala added.
Some of the prominent names of candidates announced by the MPPC last month include Vincent H Pala from Sutnga-Saipung, Charles Marngar from Mawhati, Rona Khymdeit from Nongpoh, Celestine Lyngdoh from Umsning, PN Syiem from Pynthorumkhrah, Marbud Dkhar from Mawlai, John A Lyngdoh from North Shillong, Ronnie V Lyngdoh from Mylliem, Nehru Suting from Pynursla, Gabriel Wahlang from Nongstoin, Brigady N Marak from Bajengdoba, Deborah C Marak from Williamnagar, KC Boro from Tikrikilla, Billykid A Sangma from North Tura and Sayeedullah Nongrum from Mahendraganj.
