Renowned singer Modi passes away at 84

SHILLONG, Jan 20: One of the most popular and enchanting female vocalists to have adorned the firmament of Khasi-Jaintia songs and music for the last many decades, Bibiana Modi War (84) passed away on Thursday at her residence in Nongrah.
Fondly called Modi, her much sought for songs in Khasi and Jaintia languages were widely heard and enjoyed in the Khasi and Jaintia programme broadcasts over All India Radio.
Besides her rendition of Khasi and Jaintia songs over All India Radio and Doordarshan, Modi was known to have been much in demand in concerts and cultural programmes to perform songs from her rich repertoire of heart enrapturing songs.
The funeral will take place at 2 pm on Saturday. Her mortal remains will be buried at the Laitumkhrah Catholic Cemetery.
