SHILLONG, Jan 22: Accusing the leaders of the ruling parties of blatantly looting the people and shamelessly taking credit of many flagships programmes sponsored by the central government, the Meghalaya BJP on Sunday asserted that the state needs Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s double-engine government to excel.
State BJP vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak said, “Every five years, legislators talk about development placing huge figures on their annual budgets but in reality, all visible development on the ground are schemes and projects sponsored by the central government under the leadership of Narendra Modi.”
“Modi’s double-engine government is the need of the hour in Meghalaya as it would change the whole scenario of the state,” he said.
Pointing out that the centrally-approved and funded projects for infrastructure, road, education, health, water and multiple schemes were launched to uplift the poor in the state, he lamented that no one in the state was acknowledging was the Central government.
“Most of the foundation stones do not mention the Ministry from which the fund was sanctioned. Even the banners and hoardings which are put up everywhere in the state highlight centrally-sponsored projects and schemes but Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s picture is nowhere to be seen,” he observed.
He went on to claim that some leaders of the state have gone down to the extent of shamelessly putting up their own pictures with public money, taking credit for central schemes and projects.
