TMC candidate visits village left in darkness in James’ constituency

Tura, Jan 25: TMC Candidate from Dadenggre, Rupa M Marak on Wednesday, visited Kantananggre, a village which has been reeling under darkness for many years after a transformer in their village developed a snag.

Kantananggre village falls under Dadenggre Constituency which is presently held by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s elder brother, James K Sangma. According to a release by the party, the TMC leader’s visit saw villagers narrating their ordeal and lamenting the terrible situation they were in.

“After hearing their sad state of affairs, I have come here in person to understand this long-standing issue. The villagers said that they approached the local MLA James Sangma in 2018 when he was the Power Minister. They requested that he get the transformer repaired, after which he reportedly also assured to give Rs 50,000 as a donation for the repair works. However, despite visiting his residence several times, the locals say that he wasn’t available. It is extremely disappointing and sad to see this happen in his constituency,” the TMC leader said in his statement

“There are so many students who study in different schools and colleges, but here they live in total darkness. The students continue their education, studying under lamps and candles. It is unfortunate to witness their plight as they live in complete darkness. I have assured the villagers to extend my full support, and I will also approach the Power Department to look into the matter at the earliest,” he added.

Meanwhile, expressing shock over the pathetic situation faced by the people under current MLA’s tenure, Marak on behalf of his party promised to resolve the matter and bring relief to the people.
