Security upped for R-Day; ganja worth Rs 25 lakh seized in city

SHILLONG, Jan 25: Security in Shillong has been beefed up in view of the Republic Day celebration on Thursday, while ganja worth around Rs 25 lakh was seized from a location in the city.
East Khasi Hills district police chief Raghvendra Kumar MG said that naka checking is under way along all the roads in the city leading to main venue.
Moreover, patrolling has also been increased quick response team, CAPF have also been deployed in the city, he added.
Round-the-clock security has been provided at the venue of the programme with access control and security checks in place.
The East Khasi Hills SP said that the police have continued vice raids and anti-narcotic drives.
Based on credible inputs, the ANTF team headed by SDPO of Sadar PS, K9 Unit, SOT, and team from Lumdiengjri PS on Wednesday conducted a joint raid at Paltan Bazar here and seized suspected contraband substance, which subsequently tested positive for marijuana, weighing 129.2 kg valued at approximately Rs 25.84 lakh.
Also, around 1,000 litres of country-made illicit liquor was found unclaimed, which was seized and destroyed at the spot.
