MAWKYRWAT, Jan 27: Sounder Strong Cajee, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from the Mawkyrwat constituency, claimed that the party would form the next government and all the regional parties would crave to be a part of it.
Cajee, also the TMC’s Mawkyrwat Block president, said this at a public meeting organised at Sakwang village in South West Khasi Hills district on Friday to welcome leaders who quit the National People’s Party (NPP), United Democratic Party (UDP), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and Congress.
The names of the office-bearers of the different units of the TMC from the Sakwang zone were also confirmed during the meeting.
Cajee hit out at some politicians trying to “mislead” the voters in Mawkyrwat by saying outsiders would swarm the constituency if the TMC won. He cited the example of former Rowell Lyngdoh, whose long tenure as a Congress MLA from Mawkyrwat did not see the inflow of outsiders.
He said the “outsider” ruse will not work because the people of Mawkyrwat know and have seen that change can happen only because of the national parties.
Cajee also said the state’s people cannot choose from the regional parties because such a party or two are born every five years and are more than six of them now. “But these regional parties will come knocking on the door of the TMC to be part of the government after the elections,” he said.
